If you’re not a member of a trade association such as NAHB, NARI or NKBA – join! The member directories of local chapters can be a good source of business and another place homeowners look for help.

Angie’s List / Home Advisor

Angie’s List has changed its business model several times over the years. At one point, consumers had to pay to join, but that is no longer the case. It’s worth noting that Angie’s List is also now owned by the same company as contractor referral service Home Advisor. Home Advisor has been plagued over the years with complaints from contractors and is currently facing a class action suit accusing the company of delivering false leads.


Yellowpages.com and Superpages.com are still two of the top referral sources of web traffic for contractors. Both sites are owned by Dex and allow businesses to claim their online listings for free, although they’re going to make you talk to a salesperson to do it.
