I was recently part of the RT Marketing (RTM) team that attended the 2020 International Builders Show (IBS) and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) as part of Design and Construction Week (DCW) in Las Vegas. It was thrilling to see all of the newest products for the home, including trends in finishes, tech, and total lifestyle trends encompassing organization, minimalism, and biophilic design.
I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to see The New American Remodel (TNAR) and The New American Home (TNAH) 2020! These homes are magnificent conceptual homes showing the latest, most innovative building and design techniques. I got to spend some time in each of the homes, meet the teams responsible for their design and execution, and hear them talk about these enormous, and inspiring, projects.
Although I took some photos of the view from the TNAH, no camera could really do it justice. Nestled high in the hills with undeveloped land below it, the home is an amazing “oasis in the desert” as its interior designer, Suzanne Czar, of Sun West Custom Homes intended. With its expansive views and emerald green pools, which more than one guest compared to the lights of the MGM Grand, the home’s glamour was definitely Vegas level, while also paying tribute to the serenity and beauty of the desert landscape. The home boasts floating wine storage and a lovely, bold, use of color, TNAH’s design was impressive. Another element of the home that wowed me was its intensely sustainable footprint; it creates more energy than it uses!
I was honored to meet several of our clients at the NAHB All Stars Celebration. It was a great experience hearing about how members of the building industry create award-winning designs for their clients which help them age in place. I also learned about the variety of service opportunities many industry leaders undertake to support their industry. From helping Habitat for Humanity, to serving on their local HBAs, home remodelers/builders are some of my favorite people.
